About this Position  

At the heart of our Chullora Distribution Centre, the Night Shift Manager plays a vital role in ensuring smooth, safe, and high-volume warehouse operations while the city sleeps. You’ll be the key decision-maker onsite during night operations, leading a large team of 50+ and ensuring the job gets done - accurately, efficiently, and with care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Night Crew: Manage pickers, packers, loaders, and support staff to deliver on shift targets.
  • Own the Shift: Make on the spot decisions with confidence, the buck stops with you during nights.
  • Lead a Diverse Team: Directly manage 5 team leads including 1 Warehouse Supervisor, 1 Inventory Lead, and 2 Load Supervisors (with trucks also reporting into you), plus 1 Wave Planner (who monitors pick/pack workflows). While not direct reports, you’ll also guide 2 Trainers responsible for onboarding new recruits.
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee warehouse activities including picking, loading, inventory, receiving, and compliance.
  • People Leadership: Mentor, manage performance, and foster a high-performing, collaborative team culture.
  • Compliance & Cleanliness: Maintain HACCP, OH&S and cold storage standards, and ensure spotless housekeeping.
  • Admin & Accuracy: Monitor picking accuracy, overtime, leave, and rosters. Stay on top of reporting, payroll sign-offs and shift paperwork.
  • Collaborate Across the Board: Work closely with the inventory, replenishment, sales, and transport teams.

 

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you will bring:

  • Proven leadership experience in warehousing/distribution, ideally within food or FMCG environments.
  • A solid grasp of inventory management and high-volume night shift operations.
  • A passion for people, you genuinely care about developing others, growing team performance, and creating a strong, supportive culture.
  • Strength in people management, you're not afraid to have the tough conversations, conduct performance reviews, and hold others accountable while still bringing the best out of your team.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, OH&S, and warehouse compliance standards.
  • Confidence in decision-making, especially when flying solo during night shifts.
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Systems Savvy: Experience with the Manhattan system is a bonus.
  • Valid forklift license (bonus but not essential).
