About this Position

As our Network Engineer, you’ll play an important role in keeping the technology that connects our people, partners, and customers running seamlessly. At PFD, we bring people together through food and you’ll be part of the team that makes that possible every day by ensuring our national network is secure, resilient, and reliable.

You’ll join a collaborative IT environment where your expertise will help sustain critical infrastructure across our branches, distribution centres, and customer-facing platforms. From maintaining connectivity to enhancing performance and security, your contribution will directly support how we deliver quality and connection across Australia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide Level 2/3 network support for local and remote teams, ensuring issues are resolved promptly and within SLA timeframes.
  • Install, secure, maintain, and support local and wide area networking, communication, and related software/hardware in a multi-platform environment.
  • Plan, manage, and implement network and security changes aligned to ITIL methodologies and best practice.
  • Maintain and improve lifecycle management of network hardware and software.
  • Remediate network vulnerabilities and contribute to the continuous improvement of our security posture.
  • Assist with configuration and ongoing management of APM/NPM monitoring tools.
  • Support implementation and management of Software and IT Asset Management systems (SAM/ITAM).
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors, internal engineers, and senior stakeholders, representing the Network Team in cross-functional forums.
  • Create and maintain up-to-date documentation, diagrams, and knowledge base articles.
  • Participate in an on-call roster to ensure high network availability.

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you will bring:

  • 5+ years’ experience in network or systems engineering within a medium-to-large enterprise.
  • CCNP (or higher) and experience working in ITIL environments.
  • Strong hands-on skills across routing, switching, wireless, and firewall technologies (Cisco, HP, Juniper, FortiGate, Aruba).
  • Solid understanding of cloud platforms (Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS) and network protocols (BGP, OSPF, VRF, VPN).
  • Exposure to Linux/Unix systems, network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, LibreNMS, OpsGenie), and scripting (Python, PowerShell, SQL).

Highly regarded:
Certifications in AWS, Azure, Fortinet, or Palo Alto; experience with Cisco DNA Center, ISE, or automation tools (Ansible, ManageEngine); and knowledge of ITIL v4, APM, and security frameworks (NIST, PCI, ISO27001, ASD).

What Success Looks Like (6-12 months)

  • Network performance and uptime remain consistently high across all sites.
  • You’ve built strong relationships with key stakeholders across IT, Operations, and Security.
  • Proactive monitoring and automation reduce incident volume and improve response times.
  •  Vulnerability findings are addressed quickly, contributing to a stronger, more secure network environment.
